S/V Imagine

Sailing Vessel Imagine is a Bruce Roberts designed 56ft (17m) Ketch (yacht with two masts).

Down below : It has three cabins. V-berth cabin has a double bed and two bunk beds. The Port cabin has a single bed 1800mm long (not for tall people). The rear cabin has a queen bed and a small lounge.

This boat only has one bathroom/toilet/shower for everyone to share. It is located in the rear cabin.

The saloon has a u shaped lounge surrounding the dinner table on the port side. There is also seating on the starboard side. Both are large enough to sleep on if needed.

The two freezers, fridge and navigation station are also located in the saloon area.

The Kitchen (Galley) comprises of a double sink bench area and a two burner gas stove with oven. There is also a pantry, pots and pans and crockery cupboard.

Up top: There are two bench seats in the cockpit that are large enough to convert into single beds if needed.

The fore and aft decks are large enough to accommodate several people sun bathing or having lunch on deck.

Sails: Imagine has  two furled sails, a Head sail and a Staysail. Being a ketch we have a Main sail and a Mizzen sail. If using a combination of these four sails isn’t enough, in the sail cupboard down below there is  a Gennaker, a Spinnaker, a Storm Jib and a Trisail for different weather conditions.

Motor: The boat has a Volvo Penta 75hp diesel motor. There are four fuel tanks totaling 900ltrs. The motor uses about 6ltrs per hour giving us a speed of 5kts (10kmph).

Water: The three water tanks hold a total of 360ltrs. To top up the water there is a 120ltr/h water maker (desalinator)

Safety: Safety is a priority. Imagine passed its CAT1 certificate just before leaving New Zealand. CAT1 is 162 pages of safety compliance, which covers everything from structure of the boat through to life raft and lifejacket inspections. The boat has to have backups of almost everything, chartplotter, GPS units, communication radios, engine parts, etc.
